New Countertops

A slab of Granite before it was cut. See below for more details.

A close up prior to cutting into the slab.

Maybe it was Melanie who got us going, but after reading all of her posts on the home makeover we got enthused to do something drastic. Tammy has been worrying about this all week, my fault, as it is already done and will be installed either tomorrow or Thursday. This all came very suddenly on on a whim. Hopefully we won't be sorry for doing it.

This picture is a machine at American Heritage cabinets and granite. It is rounding off the edge on a piece of granite that has been cut to fit our kitchen corner. It is called an ogee edge.

This is the island with the hole cut out for the sink. I went down this morning and watched them cut it. The holes still need to be made for the faucets. It took about 4-5 hours to cut it and make the smooth edge around the surface.

This is another look at the island. We had them cut it a foot longer and 1 inch wider than the previous counter top.

This is a close up picture of the slab of Granite. It has a reddish brownish vein flowing through it.

Here is another close up. This granite was imported from Brazil; at least, I'm pretty sure that is where it is from, if not it was Italy.

This is the cut out for the bathroom.

Dan and Tam, you guys rock! Your granite choice is gorgeous and will go with any color scheme.

We love our kitchen granite too, and have talked about redoing our bathrooms in the future. We still have the home equity loan to pay off first! We'll probably pick a less expensive granite for the bathrooms though...

Have FUN with your home improvements :-). Lots of love, Cel
