I visited Connie this afternoon in the ICU. Yesterday she had a major abdominal surgery. She had a large portion of the right lower part of her colon removed. The bowel had twisted on itself causing her serve abdomen pain. The surgeon took out her cecum and a section of bowel adjacent to it. Remarkably, Connie was in good spirits. Guess what the first thing she said to me? Yeah! You're right it was, "Get me a Pepsi, Dan."
Everyone that came in the room while I was there got the same question from her. "Will you get me a Pepsi?" she would ask, even the housekeeper who by the way, seemed quite surprised by the question.
Unfortunately, she cannot have foods or liquids except for ice chips. She has an IV, which she is tolerating but the oximeter on her finger was driving her nuts and the nurse relocated it to her right 2nd toe. She has a face mask, feeding tube, and central line. As you can tell from these pictures she looks pretty hammered so please keep her in your prayers.
Mom told me that yesterday when she came out of surgery she sang, "Jesus Wants me for a Sunbeam," for the staff. I'll bet they enjoyed that.

Poor Connie. We'll all be sure to pray for a quick recovery.
Ohh Dad, that post made me cry. Ecpecially at the end when you said she sang for the staff after her surgery. Cory and I want to visit her this weekend. Maybe today or tomarrow. Is Grandma hanging in there too? I guess we'll see. I really liked the video too. It's same old Connie. Too bad she can't have a Pepsi in a bottle quite yet.
I just got back from Woodbadge training and heard the news. We'll keep Connie in our prayers. Pepsi probably would make Connie recover quickly!
I'm glad Connie seems to be in such good spirits. Hopefully she will recover fast. It is strengthening to me that if Connie can be in such good spirits after a major surgery and she doesn't even know what is going on, maybe we all can learn something from that! We'll keep her in our prayers!
