We made it to Kirtland today at about 3:00 pm. It was a 6 1/2 hour drive. We hit 3 tolls that put us back about $12.00. Soon after we got here we took the 6 mile drive to Kirtland. It is not quite what I expected. Even though the temple was large for its day it is small compared to todays standard. The RLDS church owns the temple so we toured the building with them. They do no allow pictures taken inside the temple. It was interesting to be inside and feel this spirit that is there. Just knowing what happened there with the appearance of the Lord, Elijah, etc. We sat in the pews and I imagined what it might have been like to have been there when the temple was dedicated. The building has 3 levels. The first two floors are very much alike. Tours are not allowed on the 3rd level I think for structural reasons. The Priesthood pulpits where in place. We walked up the stairs at the entrance to the building and toured the 2nd level 1st. We could see the craftmanship of the builders. There was a place we could look into to see the stone wall structure. The walls are 2 feet thick. Tonight we are staying at the Fairfield in Willoughby. It is not that nice, but will do for this evening. After dinner we went to lake Erie and walked at sat watching the beach front. It is very dry here as they are in a drought. Tomorrow we are headed to Niagra Falls. I'll try posting a picture. The signal at this motel is not very strong so I may not get it posted. Love you all.

This picture was taken on the temple grounds. The trees are beautiful here.

Looks like you are having fun. Wish we could be there to.
I love the pic of mom by the tree (and you too dad) :) The RLDS temple sounds interesting, doesn't our church have a temple in kirtland as well? Did you make it there as well?
Okay that's it! We're driving out there soon for a trip. I never considered going there. Did you hit any traffic?
I like the picture of you guys by the tree as well. It sure does sound like you're having fun. It would be cool to see everything that you guys are seeing. Taking the tour of the temple does sound interesting. I think its cool that you are making time to post. It's fun seeing the latest pictures from your andventures.
We are getting ready to go back to kirtland. Jenni, the temple there is not an operating temple. It was built by the early saints, but is now operated by the community of Christ (RLDS) church. It is the place where many visions and revelations were received. The church operates a visitors center there. We are headed there now.
Melanie, the traffic was okay. No major delays at all. The only bad part was there were no places to stop to use the bathroom because if you got off of a toll road you had to pay. There was a rest stop closer to Ohio however where we stopped to use the restroom.
Well, talk to you all later.
Thanks for writing. The cameras are ready for more action today.
Breakfast at the fairfield is muffins, oranges, apples, yogurt, and cereal.
Later fans,
dad
