FYI from Kirtland

I purchased this book in Kirtland when we were there. It is very good and tells the history of the Kirtland area and what happened at all of the locations that we went to on our trip. I just finished reading it yesterday. Now, I am on a mission to get the Book of Mormon read in the next few weeks.

This picture is inside of the Kirland temple. We were able to sit in the pews about three rows back from the front left side. These pulpits are on the west end of the building and are the Melchizedek Priesthood pulpits. A similiar set of pulpits called the Aaronic Priesthood pulpits occupy the east side of the room; exactly opposite end from these.

The first presidency sat in the middle row, meaning J.S. was in the middle seat there. We could see the area on the ceiling where the veil of the temple had hung. The groove for the tracks was still there. If you remember when the Lord accepted the temple, Joseph and Oliver had called upon the Lord on their knees in prayer.

Needless to say it was a great experience for us to be in this temple and feel the spirit there.

There are three levels in this temple. The 2nd level is almost exactly like the first; however, the pulpits are not as massive. The 3rd level housed the office of the 1st Presidency. Several documented appearances of the Father and the Son happened in this temple.

Christ appears and accepts the temple. The veil was taken from our minds, and the eyes of our understanding were opened. We saw the Lord standing upon the breastwork of the pulpit, before us; and under his feet was paved work of pure gold, in clore like amber. His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying: I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father.... Cool pics from Kirtland. I can't wait to go there. I really liked the ones from the inside of the temple. Did you just scan the postcards?

The RLDS folks don't allow pictures inside the temple. I tried scanning some of my postcards, which they sell, but these particular pictures I found on the internet. The pulpits look exactly like what is shown here.

I've actually been to Kirtland when I was in Ohio for awhile. Why won't they allow pictures inside?

I don't know why they do not allow pictures. I suppose if people took their own pictures that they wouldn't buy the postcards sold by the RLDS folks; thus, eliminating a source of income. My guess.........

I can't imagine them making tons of money off of postcards, but then and again what do I know. Do the RLDS folks do the tithing thing?

It is only recently that they started charging for tours. It now cost $2.00 per person to tour the temple. I'm thinking that because they do not have tithing or at least a membership that consistently pay tithing that they are thinking of other ways to generate income to keep the building for falling into need of repair.
