Tammy and I have 4 grand kids that have been baptized. They are pretty special kids. We love them all. This is Abby's. She was baptized 2 years ago. Hopefully the church will forgive me for using some footage of the Christ movie.

Brian is in the process of having his students paint a huge trailer to honor our veterans. He recently developed a Powerpoint Presentation and included a picture of his Grandpa Saunders in uniform and shared it with his middle school students. He even had several veterans from Ontario come to his classes to talk to his classes and to share war stories.

Well, I finally finished Juliette's baby video. She is now almost 8 years old, so these pictures may bring back some memories. I've tried to do one for all our grandkids. I still need to do one for Ben and Blake and the twins. I'd like to do Madison's again as the pictures are only of her in one outfit. I'm hoping to get pictures of Blake when we go next week for Grant's baptism. Yes, we are headed to T&M's house next week. Excited to see them.

On Sunday September 5th, we got up at 3:00 a.m. and drove to Oregon for the blessing of Connor and Jackson. Krista's dad blessed Connor and I was able to bless Jackson. What a neat opportunity. Thank you for letting me do it Brian and Krista. It was Awesome. Here is one of the better family pictures that I got. It was kinda cold outside so we weren't able to take pictures at the church.

After the meeting we took a few pictures at the house. This is one of my favorite ones. Little Connor's head is just nestled into the shoulder of his little brother Jackson, who is really the bigger of the two, but still the youngest. Great picture.

Jackson in Portland

This is a picture of little baby Jackson in Portland. He is still awaiting his procedure/surgery. He is stable and seems to be doing okay. Unfortunately it had been rescheduled again until tomorrow afternoon. We're bummed out about the wait, but nothing we can do but wait it out.

Brian and baby Jackson in his isolette here in Portland. The procedure/surgery could take 4-5 hours once they begin it. His tentative time is 2:00 p.m. tomorrow June 11th.

He is such a sweet little boy.

Keep him in your prayers. We are worried about him.

Connor the twin in Boise

I'm in the waiting room in Portland and waiting for Brian and Tammy to give an update on Jackson's status. Meanwhile I found this great wifi hotspot and had some pictures of Connor to post. Isn't this cute?

I will post pictures of Jackson shortly. He hasn't had his surgery yet and we are still waiting on when that will happen. In the meantime he seems to be doing well.

We stopped by St. Al's in Boise on our way to Portland to see Connor. Here are a couple of pictures of Tammy holding him. He is so cute. Krista was at the motel sleeping so we didn't get to see her. He seems to be doing well and is so cute.

Brian and Krista's twins were born this morning. Their names are Jackson
and Connor. Jackson isn't doing well. They were born in Caldwell, but
shipped to Boise where they found that Jackson has a pulmonary valve
that isn't working correctly. He needs to have surgery, which will be
done in Portland, Oregon tomorrow.

Brian is flying to Portland with Jackson. Connor is doing well, but is in intensive care and will be in Boise for a few weeks. Krista is in Caldwell still. When Roy & Cheryl (Krista's parents) get there shortly, Brian will go get her and take her to Boise to see the boys.

The pulmonary valve is in the heart so this will be be a heart surgery, which they will try to fix via a catheter approach. If that's not successful it will be open heart surgery.

Angel's Landing at Zions

During spring break Tammy and I went to Zions and did a few hikes. These are some pictures and a video from Angel's Landing. We did the whole hike except for the last 1/2 mile. Tammy was a real trooper and braved the steep inclines even though she is afraid of heights. The last 3/4 mile is done with chains. I did about a 1/4 of a mile or so until I thought it was unsafe to continue. Last year an ISU faculty fell from this hike and was killed. I suppose that was in the back of my mind as I was climbing. Additionally, there were a lot of people doing the hike and some of the danger was coming "face to face" with another hiker and debating on who would let go of the chain to let the other person by. Regardless, it was fun doing the part of the hike that we did. Round trip was over 12 miles or so.

Special Day for a Special Granddaughter

Doesn't Madison look pretty in this new dress. We are getting ready to go into the church for the baptism.

We were lucky enough to be able to go to Madison's baptism this past weekend. Her birthday was on Saturday and she turned 8 years old.

It was so neat to see her get baptized. Here is a picture at the font prior to her baptism. She later said that the water was warm and that she "felt so good inside". She is a wonderful granddaughter and we love her very much.

Here is a picture of us in the high council room. After the baptism she was confirmed a member of the church by her dad. It happened in this room. These are a few of the pictures we were lucky enough to get after the confirmation.

We went to see "Hello Dolly", which is playing in Blackfoot this past weekend. Here is a picture of mom, Connie, Jenni, and the girls outside of the theater after the show. Jenni and the girls were visiting this past weekend while Ted was at a writers conference in Provo.

Here is a picture of Abby and Juliette with 2 of the main characters. After the show the the girls ran to the front to shake hands. Tammy was able to get this quick snapshot. These two characters were my favorites. The woman is in Angie and Cory's ward. She was the best singer.

Abby was so fun to watch. She loved it and laughed her heart out. Here she is with one of her favorite characters. He was very funny.

Palisades with Cory and Angela

Angela is always ahead of me in posting, but here are a few of my pictures of the lower Palisades hike a few weekends ago. Here you see 2 beautiful ladies hikes through the lush forest with their poles in hand. It started out as a snowy day. It was brisk and the trail was muddy but we forged forward and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

Upon reaching the lake we stopped and ate lunch. It was cold at this elevation so we didn't last long as we did an "about face" and headed back down the mountain.

The colors of the leaves were pretty as we stopped and posed for a few "someday famous" photographs.

These pictures of Cory and Angela show the snow on the bridge. I really liked going over the bridges and hearing and watching the water rush down the creek.

It was a very fun day for us and we ended up at"5 GUYS" where I spilled my drink, dropped my fries, and got the employees mad at having to clean up after me.

Of course the square ice cream cones at Swan Valley were a favorite too, but unfortunately no pictures. Sorry fans.

Backyard work project

A few weekends ago we went to Utah to help Jenni and Ted with a little backyard project that they were doing. Their plans were to start and finish it up in 2 days. I think we showed up on day 3 and this is what we walked into.
Jenni was about dead from working so hard for 2 days without rest. The idea was to clear a little grass for a patio and while doing that replace the bad grass in the yard (crab grass area) with the grass that they were taking out from the patio area. Whoa! I thought as I walked into the back yard. I'm in for a sore back.

It's kinda like rearranging your furniture only you're doing it with your lawn. It seemed simple enough. All we had to do was move the lawn from one place to another.

These little rolls of sod seemed like they weighed between 25-50 lbs depending on how much grass Ted rolled into the little ball. I didn't mind the little ones, but the larger ones were KILLERS.
Not too bad I thought during this picture early on in the day. By nightfall my wrists and hands were sore from grabbing and lifting.

When we were done it looked like this. Not bad for a hard day's work.

In the evening we ended up at Maverick for ice cream. Did you know that they serve soft ice cream in cups? How much ice cream can you get into a small $2.00 cup. Well, the answer is to just watch Ted, he will show you how its done.

See what I mean. Don't you think he could have got a little more on there? Next it was my turn.
Not nearly as big as Ted's but still a little embarrassing to take to the cashier.

This might be a good white trash story, what do you think? We fed the four adults with 2 cups of ice cream. The kids got cones. Boy was this an awesome end to a hard day of work or what?

Temple Visit

Also an FYI: This week Tammy found a letter that I had written her in 1972 before I left on my mission. It was written to my "dream girl" and was very interesting for us to read as I talked about our future together and what I hoped would happen to the two of us. It was so cool for us to read it again.

Today was out temple anniversary session. It was nice to go and a beautiful day. Here is a look at the temple with a picture of a flower with a bee in it that Tammy took + a self shoot of us both with me holding the camera in my left hand. I know, we could have asked someone to take the pose, but I liked the picture regardless.

So, we are on this hike. Tammy has to use the bathroom. She is perched on a rock. We hear this commotion from some hikers ahead. This girl comes running down the trail. I am trying to use my (you know what) to relieve myself. Tammy stands up mooning the poor BYI Idaho Girl. I quickly zip up my pants. I look up and there is this huge moose with his brother staring at me. The girls run up a small embankment. I grab my camera and start shooting. The bigger moose looked at me with a look of disdain. I keep shooting. It was a stupid thing to do, but what a great picture hugh?

Look for the Table Rock we did it link!

We had a great time on our first annul table rock hike. The weather was beautiful, the creeks were cold, we even saw a black bear. Thank goodness we were in the car when that happened. The elevation of table rock is 11,000 feet. Was it worth the sweat equity? Tammy probably would have given a different answer yesterday. TODAY ---well, it was awesome!

Time involved: We left home at 4:30 a.m. and got home at midnight. We're slow, but we did stop for dinner in Rexburg at 10:00 p.m.

35 years after the Fact

Sorry about this long post. I also uploaded it to my Family Website, but was sure that many of you will not see it there and I thought someone might be interested in reading about this experience. Again, I apologize that it is so long.

Last June 09 I had an experience that I would like to record for my memory.

It was shortly after coming home this past summer from helping Brian work on his house. I was feeling kind of down and bad for Brian and the problems he was having with his plumbing. It had been raining hard and we were working on his house in Ontario, Oregon. I had been there for a week helping with some projects and we had experienced one difficulty after the next.

His bathroom faucet was leaking a steady stream and to turn the water off was a big ordeal. Brian had to turn it off at the street. It was a muddy mess as he took my shop vac out to the street to suck the water out of the manhole. He then had to lay down on the ground, get a wrench on the pipe that controlled his water, and shut the valve. My heart sank as I saw him wet, tired, muddy, and discouraged. We were also in the process of hooking up the kitchen refrigerator to generate ice cubes. While doing this we broke a pipe and had water leaking in the basement of his home. Of course it was Saturday night at 9:30 p.m. and the only place we could go for parts was the Home Depot. Well, to make a long story short, we visited Home Depot and obtained the necessary supplies. We were able to stop the basement leak, but the bathroom faucet needed to wait for another time. The next day I returned home to Pocatello.

As I sat at my computer desk the next evening feeling kind of discouraged, I noticed the light blinking on my answering machine. As I listened to the messages a voice blurted out, “Is this Dan Hobbs who used to live in Idaho Falls, and served a mission in Washington in 1974 or so?” He then gave me his name. He said, “This is Tom Janaky; I think you taught my mom and dad.” I was surprised in that I didn’t serve a mission in Washington, but I did recognize the name. I immediately thought of the book on my dresser. It is a 1948 edition of the Book of Mormon. I asked Tammy if she would retrieve it for me. As I opened the book, sure enough, there was the name Janakey written inside. I then read the complete message handwritten on the cover page. It said, “God Bless you Always” Frank and Virginia Janaky, 1974. I had this rush come over me as I remembered this family with vividness. It’s funny as I think back about it now. Rarely do you remember things that happened even a few years ago and this was 35 years ago, but the events replayed in my mind.

In 1974, I was serving a mission in Houston Texas, which then was part of the Texas South Mission. My companion and I were discouraged this particular evening. In fact my entire mission didn’t seem to have much success and sometimes I have wondered through the years if I indeed had touched any lives while serving there. This particular evening in 1974 had grown late. My companion was not willing to go home and his eagerness gave me energy and spurred me on. We still had time to tract out a few more houses before retiring. I have to admit that I wanted to go home, but we felt drawn to a group of townhouses, which were located on the edge of our area. As we knocked on the Janaky’s door, Frank opened and warmly invited us in. We greeted him and his wife briefly and explained who we were. Immediately we set up a return appointment. We were excited that this family had actually invited us into their home. On subsequent visits we taught them the first discussion and had dinner with them on more than one occasion. They weren’t interested in the church, but they were very friendly towards us. They liked us. It was shortly thereafter that I was transferred from the area. Before I left, my companion and I stopped by to say goodbye. It was then that they gave me the book. I had admired the old copy of the Book of Mormon that they had perched on their bookshelf. I can’t remember how it came to be in their possession, but I do remember that Frank pulled it down from the shelf, signed it "May God always be with you," and gave it to me for a parting gift. In return he asked me to sign his family bible with my name and address. After doing this we parted and that’s the last I remember of this family. For a while I asked other missionaries about them, but never heard whatever became of them. Regardless of this experience, through the years, I have treasured this copy of the Book of Mormon as one of my prized possessions.

Now, skip forward 35 years. In June of 2009, after several discouraging thoughts about Brian’s plumbing problems and feeling bad about leaving him before his problems were completely repaired, I am sitting at my desk at home. I listen to the voice message from Frank and Virginia’s son. When I returned the phone call that evening he asked me if I was the Dan Hobbs who served a mission to Washington State in 1974. I told him that I served a mission in Texas and not Washington State, but I thought I knew who he was. In fact, I said to him “Is this the son of Frank and Virginia?” He was surprised that I knew his father and mother’s name. I then said to him, in fact, I can tell you the exact date that I saw your mom and dad last, as the date is written on a Book of Mormon that they gave to me. He seemed surprised by that. “They gave you a Book of Mormon?” he inquired. “Yes” I replied. “They gave me a 1948 edition of the Book of Mormon, it’s one of my prized possessions.” I then heard him whisper to his wife, “He has a copy of the Book of Mormon that mom and dad gave him, and they signed it.”

He then revealed that his parents had moved from Washington to Texas about that time and that he had assumed the missionaries who had visited his parents were from Washington. I asked him how he had obtained my name. He told me that he had found my name and address in the family bible. He then said, “I am calling you to tell you that my sister and I were baptized two weeks ago into your church, partly because of how nice the missionaries were to my parents. I thought it would be nice to tell you, as my parents were so fond of all the missionaries who have contacted them through the years and your name is in their family bible.” I asked, “How are they doing?” He responded, “They both have died in the past few years, but we are now in the process of getting their temple work completed.” By this time tears were forming drops of moisture that soon feel upon my cheeks. I told him that I really appreciated him calling me.

Needless to say, I was touched by this experience. It is wonderful that sometimes when we are discouraged as I was that evening, the Holy Ghost was there for me to cheer me up. I needed that uplift and the timing was perfect. I thanked Tom for calling me and letting me know about his parents and expressed gratitude for any part I might have played on events that were transpiring in his life.

Cosco does a great job at printing pictures for cheap and they are awesome. The large collage is 20 x 30" on picasa link above (the one with all the pictures) and the smaller 8x10 collages are some of the pictures we most liked.

A 20 x 30" print is only $8.99 at Costco. Can't beat that. The 8x10's are just over a buck I think.

Here are a few pictures of a fire in the neighborhood. I was taking Tammy to work a few days ago and noticed the flames. The firemen were heavily involved in fighting the fire spewing from the roof. Rumor is that the occupants left a GAS grill on and it caught the entire house on fire. There were 2 cars in the garage too. Luckily no one was hurt. The fire was reported by a driver who saw the flames from the interstate.

Easter Plastic Mania at the Park

Check out Caldwell Park the site of the big Easter EGG hunt in Pocatello. It started at 10:00 a.m. and was over at 10:02. The park was divided by yellow tape in several sections by age groups. I haven't been to something this crazy in a long time. There is just something about a thousand people waiting to pick up little plastic eggs while acting like they are gold nuggets. It's CRAZY.

Angie hangin out with the crowd in the pre-Easter egg scramble. We were so excited to watch the kids find (rather hoard) these little plastic eggs.

Don't you hate it when some lady ducks in front of your camera and says "excuse me" just as you take the picture.

It's almost time grandpa.

The yellow tape that held back the crowd was ripped down at precisely 10:00 a.m. and the crowd of people went crazy grabbing these treasures. Why do we do this? Can anyone tell me what plastic eggs and bunnies have to do with Easter?

No eggs in my pocket. Can you believe the 20000+ eggs were gone in less than a minute.

After the egg hunt we were on the way to the car and noticed a little boy crying because he was not able to get any eggs. I think they arrived a minute late and missed out on the event. We talked the kids into giving him some of their eggs. It was a hard thing for them to do, but they managed to reach into their own baskets and give him a few eggs. He was very happy and his mother was very grateful. What great grandkids!

Now we are at him. We are so cheap that we used the eggs gathered at the Park to have our own Easter Egg Hung. In this picture, Tyler surprises everyone by finding the an egg behind a picture on the end table. He was so surprised and excited.

Tammy filled the eggs with secret surprises and we hid them around the living room several times. Here is Juliette counting how many she found.

Tyler is thinking about all of his eggs while Tammy and Juliette load hers into a dish. The kids then emptied the candy from their eggs into sandwich bags, but they ate it faster than I imagined.

What have I been up to

Below are some pictures of projects I have been working on. I have painted the kitchen, dining room, living room, entry way, one of the bedrooms and hallway upstairs. Also I have put crown molding in the kitchen, living, dining and entryway. Currently I am in the process of getting ready to paint another bedroom. Soon I will be painting the master bedroom. Angie's old bedroom has been converted to an office and music room. It is blue. Jenni's old bedroom will be painted next, a light green is the color choice. Our bedroom mostly likely will be painted a cream yellow. I have been trying to paint at least 1 wall prior to heading off to work in the morning. It is amazing how much I can get done by just doing that.

Regardless, I thought someone might be interested. Also, we purchased a new range and microwave. Thought someone might like to see it.

Grant is our GRANDSON

It's been a while since I posted, but this definitely deserves attention. I am the grandfather of the neatest grandson in the whole world. His name is Grant and this is his picture. He is the best grandson a grandfather could have. I wish I could see him more and take him with me to Lowes and Home Depot with me. Those are my favorite hangouts and wouldn't it be neat to be able to take this boy with me to my favorite places. Realistically, I'd take him to McGee's or the park or just hang out with him someplace he'd like. We don't get to see him very often as he lives 2500 miles away; nevertheless, I love him with a passion.

Lately, I have been reading the story of Emma Smith. Yesterday I read the chapter when Emma had her first baby and he died shortly after birth. The author portrayed well; at least in my mind, the feelings that Emma and Joseph must have felt during that ordeal in their lives. They were living in a "make shift" shack on her parents property, nearly destitute. My heart ached for the this dear family and what they went through both physically and spiritually during this time. I wondered why the Lord would allow something like this to happen to such good people who were trying their hardest to do His will. We won't fully comprehend why things like this happen until the next life. Regardless, it made me appreciate them in a way I'd missed somewhere in my life. She married a prophet of God; yet, that did not take away the tribulations and hardships that the Lord had in store for their lives. Little did they know what the next few years would bring. Their lives would be plagued with difficulties. It made me feel almost guilty. I've had such a comfortable and good life. Nevertheless, I prayed again that I might know that he was truly a prophet.

Now I say, "I know he was a prophet of God," and I love him. However, I also appreciate his dear sweet wife. I have thought of her in ways I hadn't imagined before. How wonderful she must have been. Thank the Lord for mothers like Emma.

Now back to Grant. My heart ached when I was made aware of his diagnoses. I wondered what life had in store for him. Where would he be in 1st grade, 2nd grade, etc. How would others treat him? What about as a teenager? Aspirations of missions and marriage flooded my mind. Then, came the guilty feelings of not being able to comfort and console Travis and Melanie. How would they endure this? How must they feel? I cried then and do now as I write, but tears of sadness can also be tears of gratefulness. Grateful that Grant was born to such wonderful parents who have made sure he receives every opportunity and help that can be given him. I am so thankful for their example and the willing way they are spreading the word about autism to others through blog postings such as this.

We have a little boy in our primary here in Pocatello who is severely autistic. It amazes me each week as I see one of his parents sitting by him in sharing time and in class. Sometimes the child acts out and makes shouting noises, but it is amazing how his spirit has influenced the rest of the kids in the ward. The Carlson boy has brought a special spirit into sharing time, and given me a greater understanding an appreciation of a parents love.

Now to Trav and Mel. We love you a lot. We worry about your needs and pray daily that they are met. We know you live in a good area, have wonderful friends (like the Burdick's who we are jealous of), have good medical facilities and all of this has been such a blessing; perhaps more so because of Grant's needs.

Lastly, Melanie, you are our Emma. Tammy and I love you so much.

We love Grant. He is the BEST GRANDSON a Grandfather could have.

Painting

Yesterday I spent a few hours painting the entry way. I was wondering if Tammy would have approved of this improvised scaffolding I used. How safe was it? It sure is a long way to the bottom. My 17 foot extension ladder wouldn't reach so this is what I came up with. It was a scary crawl to paint the far reach to the upper corner.

I thought this was funny!

When asked to draw a picture of what they wanted to be when they grew up, second-grader "Sarah" turned in the lovely drawing shown below. Needless to say, the teacher was a bit surprised -- Mrs. Smith had always seemed like such a conservative woman. So she sent a note home to the girl's mother asking for clarification as to the picture's meaning.

Dear Mrs. Jones,

I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.
I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot.

From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.

Abby was Baptized On January 24th, 2009

Yesterday we went to Utah for Abby's Baptism. It was really nice. This is one of my favorite pictures of Abby. Tammy gave the opening prayer and then Abby sang the song called "If the Savior Stood Beside Me" and I accompanied her on the guitar. She sang so beautifully and I was so proud of her. Ted's dad then spoke and then it was time for the baptism. Abby was so cute walking down into the water. Ted almost forgot the words to the baptismal prayer, but thankfully remembered them. There was a question on if Abby's toe came out of the water, but Ted's dad was sure that she was completely submerged before her toe popped out.

After the baptism Ted confirmed her. We grandfathers and Ted's brothers stood in the circle. Abby gave me a big hug after the confirmation and it made me feel so good.

I was proud of her. She is such a sweet girl with a wonderful testimony.

When we first arrived at the chapel we were the only ones there so we took a lot of pictures. When I opened the door to the font to look at the water with Tyler, he blurted out, "Is Jesus Coming?" We all laughed....but truthfully I'm sure there is something to his question. I'm sure the Savior was there or at the least aware of what was about to happen.

Just hanging out waiting for everyone else to arrive. This is the Hobbs side. Angie and the boys rode down with us. Cory had to stay home to study. We missed him.

What a cute family. Ted's family had about 40 people there. You can see them in the slide show in the next posting if you like.

Sledding and Christmas

Here are a few pictures from the last week or so. We had a very good Christmas. Brian and Krista have been staying with us for the past few days. We have had fun with them. Cory, Angie, Brian and Krista had the opportunity of playing a few games together. A few nights ago they stayed up until 2-3 a.m. playing games. I think Cory won all three games they played. Of course, we are party poopers and went to bed.

On Christmas Day it snowed at least a foot. This is Madison and me in the garage with the sleds getting ready to hit the slopes in the back yard.

Thanksgiving

These are a few of the better pictures we took on Thanksgiving day. Most of my pictures didn't turn out very good.

The picture above Jenni and Juliette sitting in the living room during the program. The top picture is Scott and his little girl.

After dinner we got together for a small program. Steve gave an opening prayer, Julie's kids performed, Brad read a story and gave us a scripture reading from the BOM, Abby and Juliette sang, and so did Connie. It was so nice to be at Brad and Julies house for Thanksgiving this year. The dinner was GREAT. Thanks you guys for making it so nice and so delicious.

I'm very thankful for a lot of things this year. Some of the things I'm thankful for include: Tammy, all of my kids, their spouses, our grand kids, my mom, my brothers and sisters and all of their kids and family, my church calling, my job, my life, and so so much more. We truly are blessed..........

The lighting was either bad or I need to get a new camera. Here is the table in the kitchen. Brad and Julie also had tables set up in their living room. Everyone had a nice place to sit and we really enjoyed talking, eating, talking, eating, and eating some more. It's hard to tell who these people are. Why, it's Jenni, Ted, Connie, Linda, Heather, and Tammy. Mom is hidden in the upper left corner.

Connie patiently sat in this chair and waited for someone to serve her. She was really good and during the program she sang, "I am a child of God". She did an excellent job as usual. She also gave the prayer on the food. It was the shortest prayer I've ever heard, but hey, we got to eat a lot faster didn't we?

Who is this lean mean party machine?

As I was getting ready for church today I put on this nice pair of pants. Tammy took this picture of me standing in our bedroom. I turned to side to show off my "vanished" grandpa belly. Where did it go? Travis and Melanie got me going on this exercise routine when they were training for the Baltimore Marathon. I'm still doing 3 miles a day on the treadmill, usually 7 days a week.

So, I pull out the suit pants I was wearing last April. I would need a rope to hold them around my waist.

I've lost 8 inches around my waist. I still can't believe it. These pants used to be too tight on me.

This is unbelievable unless you really see me in real life. I hope to stay like this. The exercise is so good. I really enjoy it. The weight loss is really not a diet as I'm eating well. What I've done is completely changed my eating habits.
I'm eating better; meaning, I love this new way of eating. For me the trick is to eat a great breakfast, good lunch, and small dinner. Why didn't I do this before now? Thanks for the example Travis and Melanie.

The pictures that follow are pretty awesome. The military honor guard was really neat to see. It made me proud to have been associated with such a good man as Dad. The funeral was very nice and the talks where really good. Tammy was pretty nervous, but Connie held her up as they both gave the life sketch together. It was nice to see everyone and to enjoy their company. Tammy's Dad was an amazing man and left an amazing legacy.

Carl's Junior Adventure

So we go to Carl's Junior with the kids and Madison gets us to climb to the top of the Kiddy slide, which is about 25 feet in the air with a straight down descent from the top.

Here Madison is telling me to hurry up as she leads the way. I'm helping Ben and Tammy is climbing up furiously behind Madison too.

At the top Ben sees the entrance to the slide and he is scared. He doesn't want to go down. I put in on my lap and shoot through the opening. He loves it. I hurry and put him down and take the next 2 pictures of Tammy and Madison coming down after me.

Pumpkin Patch

2 weekends ago Tammy and I went to Oregon to visit. We went on the neatest hayride ever and ended up in this huge pumpkin patch. Here are a few of the pictures that I took.

There was this old truck decorated to the hilt with a scarecrow and bales of hay which served as an excellent backdrop for family pictures. Don't they look cute?

Tammy and Madison picking out a few pears at the farmers market. We easily spent $30.00 on goodies and we are still eating some of the squash.

This witch was wandering around the farmer's market and I just had to have a picture of Madison standing next to her. She was handing out candy.

A few weeks before Grandpa Saunders died Tammy and I went to Utah and took them to see Jenni and Ted. It was the last outing we had together with them before he passed away. He really enjoyed the Alaska pictures that Ted showed to him on his laptop. Wethen had a nice dinner and drive back home.

When we arrived at Jill's house after visiting with Jenni and Ted, Aimee was getting ready to go to a dance. I think it was homecoming. I wanted you all to see how much Aimee has grown and how pretty this dress was. I know it has been awhile since most of you have seen Amber and Aimee. I should have taken a picture of Amber too. They have grown so much.

Amber (has finished beauty school) fixed Aimee's hair and I knew you'd like to see that too.

It was awesome to see Mike and his family. Sam is headed to his mission to Chile in a few weeks. It was great to be able to see him before he leaves.

We stopped at the temple after church on Sunday and took some pictures there.

Jen's Birthday

A few weeks ago we visited Jenni and Ted with my mom. We ended up at Maddox; imagine that. It was fun visiting with them. We spent the night at their house and Jenni made a nice breakfast for us. The mickey mouse pancakes were a big hit and very cute.

Dance the Night Away

Last weekend Tammy and I took my mother to Provo to watch Brian and Krista perform at a dance workshop that they had been attending all week. Here are some pictures of from that event. The Chorographers Jean-Marc Généreux and his wife France Mousseau where my favorite performers. They are choreographers on "So you think you can dance," and they were awesome to see dance. The show was held in the ballroom at the Wilkensen Center. Needless to say it was AWESOME. We were so glad that we could go. Brian and Krista performed a tango and a cha cha. They look SO GOOD together when they dance.

Update on my Misdemeanor Charge

Yesterday I received some good news. After 5 months my court appearance yesterday was canceled as the prosecuting attorney was convinced by Fabio to reduce the charge on my misdemeanor offense to a lesser traffic violation and I was ordered to pay a fine, which relieved my obligation to society for my U-turn on the I15. Yes, it's finally over and I'm glad. The police officer who gave me the ticket reduced the charge to "an improper lane change", thus; allowing me to pay the $78.00 fine and forgetting this big mess. Yeah, to Fabio, ~$500.00 ($350.00 for the attorney) later I'm done with this mess. Morale of the story: Don't cross the interstate in Idaho unless you use an exit."

I have to admit that the zoo there is much better than I expected it to be. We first let the kids play on the playground equipment and then had a picnic lunch. The kids ran all over the place in the playground and the zoo. The petting zoo had some goats that the kids where able to pet. They liked that.

I know that this is a lot of pictures, but it is my edited version. I deleted several but couldn't part with any of these so I posted them all. Thank goodness for this slide service allowing to post all of them.

Yesterday we had lunch at the park again with Angela and the boys and then came home and had a water party in the yard. It ended up with the kids getting out the sleds and doing some summer surfing in the pit. I couldn't believe how they were able to go down on the steep grass incline. It was fun for them, but I ended up falling and hurting my shoulder. Just a sprain, but non the less painful.

Today we have to take the kids back to their Aunt Nancy's place and tomorrow we are headed to watch Brian and Krista perform and to see Jenni and the girls. That will be fun.

For the past several weeks I have been commuting to moms to do some fixing up. Here are some pictures of some of the projects I've been working on. Also included are some pictures of the beautiful yard. Hope you like seeing them.
